Character Refresh

I was recently approached by Princess Katie and Rocket Steve, who are a rock band for kids. They were looking to reinvent the current cartoon characters of themselves, they use on all their CDs, website, videos and promotional materials. Looking to appeal to a broader children’s market, they wanted their current characters redone with a cuter, younger look. They approached several artists to contribute a sketch of their vision of the new characters. The posted sketch is my contribution to the mix. They are currently still deciding which artist’s solution will work best for their needs.

If you’re interested seeing their current characters before the big change, head on over to Princess Katie & Racer Steve. While you are there check out some of their songs. They may be a “rock band for kids” but no children are required to enjoy their music.

The Bowling Pin People Portrait Gallery presents …Lost in Oklahoma

Posted in Artwork, Copyright with tags , , , , , , on January 3, 2012 by makingbelieve

This is the first in a series of illustrations, I’m working that are part of “the Bowling Pin People Portrait Gallery”. Each character in the illustrations begin life as the shape of a bowling pin (hence the gallery name). Each illustration will be rendered in illustrator using a limited color palette (2-4 colors). I hope to have a new gallery portrait each month (along with the usual illustration mayhem squeezed in between), so stick around and enjoy!

The portrait title is from a country song I liked by Hank lll. If you’re a country music fan give it a listen, here’s the You Tube link.

2012

Posted in Uncategorized on December 31, 2011 by makingbelieve

Just as I thought I was slowing down for the year, a sudden flurry of work came in. All of it concept art. One is for a children’s video game and the other a character refresh for a rock band for kids. If things go well these two projects could turn into a lot of illustration work for the new year. …And I am also working on my own project “The Bowling Pin People Portrait Gallery”. Stay tuned.

Food Donation Poster

Posted in Artwork, Copyright on November 29, 2011 by makingbelieve

This is a poster I just recently created for a charity food drive. It was a non paying assignment, but I’m always glad to donate my time to a good cause. I decided to create the poster in illustrator because the client wasn’t sure what size they wanted the final art. So I knew vector art would give them the flexibility to size it to what ever dimensions they wish without sacrificing resolution quality … and their only request was the poster had to have penguins.  (client wishes to remain anonymous ...i don’t know why).

Yes. I’m still here..

No, I haven’t been swallowed up by a black hole or exploring a parallel universe. Work has been slow recently, so I am taking the time to catch up on other things. I should be up and running with some new posts in December.

Fashion Show Illustration

This was an illustration I did (last year, I forgot all about this one) for a charity event at my daughter’s school. The theme was Mardi Gras. It was used on all the promotional material for the event. Posters, flyers and the cover of the sponsors booklet. If I remember right (after all, it was last year) a good time was had by all.

Come here… come here. Your will is strong, Van Helsing.

This is an image I created for the home page of my iSpot account. I’ve been reading Bram Stoker’s Dracula and was inspired to illustrate something creepy. Boo!

The Not So Crazy Scientist -in Living Color

I recently received a call back from Macmillan Publishers. I had done a series of black and white illustrations for one of their children’s books. (see post here). It was so well received I was ask to revisit the project and add color to the illustrations. Now, not through the magic of pixie dust (sorry Tink) …The Not So Crazy Scientist in Living Color!

Another work in progress by Peter Campofiori. I need to hit the lottery for a couple million, so I can spend all my time completing my illustrations. But until then clients come first. All artwork is copyrighted by Peter Campofiori, it is illegal to publish or print any such artwork or text without written permission by the artist

George and the Lil Devils on hold..

Posted in Uncategorized on September 8, 2011 by makingbelieve

Just received an email to colorize some black and white illustrations, for a job I did back at the beginning of the year. We’ll have to put the Lil Devil illustrations on hold for a few weeks. I’ll try and post some other sketches as I get the time.
